Airport Information Service Systems
Project
Introduction: Airport information systems
are a crucial part of efficient traveling. They
provide real-time flight schedules, security alarms,
and all the necessary information for passengers.
At one glance, a passenger can identify where and
when their flight will leave from, and if there
is any additional news they need to be aware of.
An airport in Korea wanted to upgrade their information
systems, and turned to Advantech for a compact and
reliable solution.
System
Requirements: The customer required a controller
that could display the information of flight arrivals
and departures, airport security status and passenger
details, which led to the following requirements:

An
embedded operating system for simpler maintenance
and increased reliability

A
compact & fanless system that could fit into
small control cabinets without temperature issues

Sufficient
processing power and high speed communication
-
Good
resolution for display panels and audio for voice
indicators

Ability
to boot the system remotely via Ethernet

System
Description: The
Information Service System provides real-time information
to passengers and facilitates the process of transportation.
For clear and big displays, LCD TV's are currently
most popular choice, and UNO-2172 provides the DVI
interface which can work properly with it.UNO-2172
also provides the audio output which can directly
output to the audio speaker to be an alarm or indicator
voice. UNO-2172's GIGA LAN can provide the fast
communication to access the Data Server in the control
room. Moreover, for easy management, this project
request the Boot from LAN function to startup the
system remotely, and UNO-2172 can fulfill this request
easily, too.
Besides
the enriched IO, the customer also prefers UNO's
industrial-grade design. Especially the not having
internal cabling while supporting a wide-power input,
these features not only increase the reliability
but also reduce the cost of maintenance. And PCI-104
interface also leave the possibility of future expansion.
Conclusion:
Equipped with an Intel Pentium M 1.6 GHz
CPU and 1G DDR2 SDRAM, UNO-2172 is a powerful industrial-grade
computer that can handle multiple tasks. Its fanless
design with no internal cabling provides reliability
and high performance, while the compact and easily-accessible
design allows convenient installation. A high-speed
communication solution, such as GIGA LAN, allows information
to be processed in real-time. The DVI interface provides
a high quality digital display, extending UNO's application
to the digital signage.
